Solving Set Up Problems

Here are some common problems and solutions.

1. Is your Windows operating system up to date? We recommend Windows 2000 or XP. NEW CENTURY TELEVISION does not currently operate on Macintosh computers. For information about the latest Windows operating systems, click here.

2. Is Microsoft Interent Explorer (version 5.5 or newer) installed on your PC?. Most likely, this software is already installed on your Windows PC. If not, it can be downloaded, at no charge, by clicking here. We do not currently support Netscape, Opera, or Safari browsers.

3. Is Microsoft Windows Media Player (version 9 or newer) installed on your PC? This software may already be installed on your Windows PC. If not, it can be downloaded, at no charge, by clicking here.

4. Are you CERTAIN that Windows Media Player is properly installed on your PC? If it is properly installed, you should see video playing when after you click here. If the video does not play or play properly, then click here.

5. Is your PC too busy for video? Broadband video is an intensive computer task. We recommend that you shut down some or most of your other applications software. Also, you cannot be transferring large files at the same time that you are trying to play video.

6. Is your broadband service operating properly? At home, you will need either DSL or Cable Modem access. Most, but not all, homes are served by DSL, Cable Modem, or both. You can arrange for DSL access through most local internet service providers (ISPs), or through such national firms as Earthlink (www.earthlink.com) and AOL (www.aol.com). You can arrange for Cable Modem service only through your local cable television operator.

If you're at work, you can access NEW CENTURY TELEVISION through your company's internal network. Check with your System Administrator to make sure that your network account permits broadband multimedia access.

7. Is video playing in an inconsistent manner? Most often, video playback issues are caused by issues related to the speed and quality of your internet connection.

Begin by shutting down all software applications except your web browser. Close all web browser windows except this one. Make sure you aren't downloading or uploading files in the background.

If this is not successful, restart your computer and return to the channel. Often, this simple process corrects the problem.
